Homemade Pie Boxes – The Perfect Companions for Your Tastalicious Pies

If you make pies at home and you have a good number of people who are simply in love with your apple or lemon meringue pies, you got to think about starting your own homemade pie business.
People love pie boxes because not only they are the bearer of awesome taste, but also because they protect the pies and they look beautiful.
If you would have a look at the custom-made pie boxes of one of the best homemade pie businesses or bakeries, you will see what I mean.
Not only making your pie boxes at home will save you from the expenses incurred on packaging, but they will also tickle your creative genius out of you and give you a sense of peace and accomplishment.

So, for the coming weekend, I urge you to think about taking your love for pies to a whole new level. Start a pie business and worry not about the packaging expenses, because this post bent on training you to make your own pie boxes out of cardstock.
So, without further ado, let us have a look at the steps of turning simple sheets of paper or cardstock into custom pie boxes:

1.      Choosing the Stock

The type of paper and/or cardstock varies based on the thickness of the material as well as its look, feel and flexibility. In order to make your own pie boxes with the printed labels of your home-based business, all you need to do first is to pick the cardstock or sheets that you are going to use.
Diversity – is the approach that you will use if you want each pie box to look differently amazing and not the same as previously made pie boxes. However, in this case not only you will have to think of new and unique patterns every time, but it will take a lot of time and energy (money) as well. The only thing that you will not do “New” will be the label of your business.

Uniformity is the approach that you should go for in cases where you neither have too much time, money, efforts to invest in custom designed pie boxes with unique styles nor you are bent on them. However, uniformity has its own challenges. If you run a business, do it like business people do it. Your pies cannot have a taste different from the taste on last Monday and your boxes cannot have one extra redlining or it will not look professional.

2.      Material

Once you have decided on the stock and you have also decided whether your approach is going to be diversity or the uniformity, it is the time to choose materials. Here are the materials that you need to pick:
  • A pair of scissors, scale, glue, double-sided tape and bone folder
  • Cardstock (remember that the quantity and style of stock depends on whether you want to make triangular pie boxes or round ones)
  • Wrapping paper – to give more luxurious and stylish look, choose fabric wrapping paper
  • Embellishments – whichever you choose
  • Your company’s printed labels and stickers
  • Colored paper sheets

3.      Process

Here is the step of making customized pie boxes at home – just like a pro
  • Get the paper/cardstock meant for making pie boxes and download a template.
  • Remember that you have to first decide if your pie box is around one or triangular one
  • Get the relevant template, download it and get it printed on your cardstock sheet
  • Have a look and you will see that there are dashed lines on your template; these lines are to be scored along
  • Use your bone folder to score along these lines and this will start changing a raw sheet of paper or card into a box
  • And yes, do not forget to cut out the parts which are meant to be cut out and apply glue to the tab on either extreme right or extreme left -  it is there to help you paste one side to another and bring the box into existence
  • Now you have three walls of your pie boxes (in case where box is triangular) but you still have to assemble the bottom and make the lid
  • To assemble the bottom apply glue to the tab on each flap and glue them all together to the walls of the main box – but definitely on the inside, not outside
  • To make the lid, apply glue to the tabs on one long side and the short side, tuck them into the other long side and press gently to let the glue have its effect
Once you see that your box is done and all that is left now is to decorate it, you can move towards decorating and customizing it:
  • Apply glue to the unprinted side of your company’s label/sticker and glue it to the center of the lid and/or anywhere else on the box
  • Cut shapes like hearts, stars, flowers, smilies or whatever you like from the colored paper sheets and glue them to all over the box, including the lid
  • Apply the embellishments how so ever you please, tie a ribbon all around the box, excluding lid, and make a bow.
  • Make a ribbon butterfly on the lid and paste a card with customer’s name handwritten on it
  • Paste leaves, motifs or similar stuff on the box and also fill the remaining space inside with dried rose petals – yet, beware that the price of a box goes up with the luxurious and decorative stuff that you add to it.
  • Get a lace and paste it into the three sides of the lid and it will give it an even more classic look
  • A die-cut window pane is an option – you can make a die cut heart, flower or anything, paste a PVC plastic sheet on the backside of the box and voila, you will have a die cut window pane pie box for your customers, make many more!
See, it was not as difficult as you might have thought. You can start doing it and with time will come the perfection and you will be eventually saving the lot of money, time and efforts.
Above all, your customers would LOVE the awesome lies packed inside personalized pie boxes with cards bearing their names. People will send gifts to their loved ones with their names on the cards and your “expensive” homemade packaging will open more business venues for you.

Remember that it is apparently the best option for getting high priced customized pie boxes from packaging companies or going with readily available, cheaply priced and cheap looking pie boxes so visit here. Personalized and handmade is the way to go!
